February 18 -- The Vow of Poverty
Evangelical Poverty calls us to place all that we have at the service of our apostolic mission and we choose, like Christ, to be one with the poor. Poverty as lived by Christ demands of us solidarity with the poor and oppressed. We work with them to defend their rights and to uphold their dignity. As missionaries, we strive to live a simple way of life and so become a challenge to the mentality of a consumer society

March 25 -- The Vow of Chastity
Consecrated Chastity is more of God’s gift to us than our gift to God. It is a way of loving and must be nourished by love. It is a possible and satisfying state of life that does not hinder human fulfillment, but rather can lead to true maturity. Celibate love matures only with time, and only through lifelong cultivation does it attain full flowering.

April 22 --The Vow of Obedience
Apostolic Obedience calls us to the Lord in his obedience, who came not to do his own will but his Father’s. We bind ourselves through vowed obedience tocarry out what our superiors enjoin according to the constitutions of the Society. We seek to know God’s will. This implies that we as individuals and communities enter into a true process of discernment. Final decisions rest with the superior, but by this wider participation in the discernment process, insight is gained and obedience becomes more meaningful.

May 27 --Living the Vows in Community
Every Divine Word Missionary is a member of a definite community, be it a house or district, and contributes to building up his community. Sincere brotherly love, more than merely living and working together, will make us truly one. We try to develop personal relationships withone another so that all feel accepted and at home in our community. A distinguishing feature of our community life is that members from different nations live and work together. This becomes a mutually enriching experience when based on deep respect for one another’s nationality and culture.
